The first half of 2025 saw Community Land Management Committees (CLMCs) from Garbatula Ward, Kina Ward, and Sericho Ward in Isiolo County visit Kamuthe for a benchmarking and learning visit.

The core aim of the visit was to learn from Kenya’s first trust land to be registered as community land under the Community Land Act 2016.

These visits mark a significant milestone in promoting knowledge sharing and strengthening community land governance among pastoralist communities in Kenya.

The learning mission was financially supported by the Merti Integrated Development Programme (MID-P), underscoring their commitment to advancing secure land tenure and effective governance structures in Isiolo County.

In addition to the field engagement in Kamuthe, the visiting delegations also had an enriching session at the Institute of Peace and Security Studies at the University of Garissa, where they deepened their understanding of community land rights, conflict resolution, and sustainable management in the context of northern Kenya.

“The benchmarking and learning visits not only reinforce the importance of legal land registration but also fostered inter-county collaboration as communities prepare to secure and govern their lands amid growing external pressures and development interests.”
