Kamuthe community’s reputation as a model for effective community land registration and management in Kenya continues to reach far and wide.

In February, Kamuthe Community Wildlife Conservancy had the honour of having a sitting with the Council of Governors to discuss Kamuthe’s monumental transition from a trust land to a community land.

The forum, facilitated by the Maarifa Centre, was attended by the County’s Chief Officer, Hon. Hassan Abdi, alongside the Council of Governors delegation.

The forum provided a valuable opportunity to share best practices and document the insights gained since becoming the first trust land in Kenya to be registered as community land under the Community Land Act 2016.

The insights shared include how securing land tenure fosters sustainable development and community empowerment.

Also discussed was how the Kamuthe community’s proactive approach to land registration and management safeguards the landscape’s heritage and provides a viable benchmark for other communities in Kenya.

“The strides the Kamuthe community has made highlights the transformative power of secure land tenure in driving sustainable development and community empowerment.” – Khalif Sheikh Mohamud, CEO Kamuthe Conservancy
