About Us.
Who We Are
Kamuthe community is the first community in Kenya to transition from trust land to community land ownership.
Community-driven Conservation
Kamuthe is a thriving community of pastoralists and farmers located approximately 40 kilometres southeast of Garissa town and seven (7) kilometres from River Tana (Kenya’s longest river).
In 2020, the community established Kamuthe Community Wildlife Conservancy (KCWC) to safeguard the 31,000 hectares of the region: a critical wildlife corridor and dispersal area.
A year later, the community commenced the transformative journey of transitioning the land upon which KCWC lies, from a trust land to a community land.
In 2023, Kamuthe became the first community in Kenya to successfully transition to community land ownership.
